Part 3 | From Studio to Campus — Going Live Anywhere with Captivate

Part 3 | From Studio to Campus — Going Live Anywhere with NewBlue Fusion and Captivate

Part 3 of the four part TROY TrojanVision Series: How Troy University students broadcast campus-wide and international events using NewBlue Captivate’s flexible workflow and a fiber-connected campus.

Here we follow TROY TrojanVision as it steps outside the studio and onto the campus—and beyond. This installment shows how students use NewBlue Fusion and Captivate’s flexible workflow and a fiber-connected campus to cover live events on the quad, bring remote guests into shows, and keep graphics, branding, and timing consistent whether the story is local or international.

TROY TrojanVision’s newsroom doesn’t stop at the studio door — or even at the edge of campus. Thanks to Troy University’s fiberoptic network, mobile-ready cameras, and remote connection tools, students are producing live broadcasts everywhere from the campus quad to conversations with international guests. Each remote feed and system ties directly into NewBlue Fusion to Captivate, ensuring consistent, broadcast-quality graphics and smooth integration across every live environment. Every live connection — from campus cameras to global calls — comes together through NewBlue Fusion and Captivate, bringing visual consistency, clarity, and polish to every story they tell. Together, this dynamic, innovative workflow pushes the boundaries of what this professional and engaging show can achieve.

Across Campus: Storytelling in Motion

Every day, TROY TrojanVision students cover multiple events across Troy University — often within hours of each other.  A graduation ceremony can be followed by other live campus events — such as a nursing pinning ceremony, a lecture, or a performance — all supported by NewBlue Captivate’s flexible graphics workflow. The campus-wide broadcast infrastructure is built for flexibility. Fiber-connected cameras feed directly into the control room, where students manage signals through the Blackmagic ATEM Constellation and a Wheatstone for audio. Each live feed — no matter where it originates — maintains a consistent look and feel through NewBlue Fusion to Captivate’s centralized graphics system.

NewBlue Captivate gives students the power to tell stories dynamically. Lower thirds, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) layouts, and Cap graphics help layer visuals — allowing viewers to see the speaker, the crowd, and live details at the same time. Smooth transitions keep each broadcast flowing while maintaining a sense of pace and purpose. It’s not just coverage — it’s storytelling in motion.

By mastering these live productions, students learn the real skills of modern broadcasting: managing live feeds, syncing signals, and making creative, split-second decisions under pressure.

Around the World: Conversations Beyond Campus

TROY TrojanVision’s storytelling extends far beyond Troy, Alabama. With Quicklink for browser-based interviews and LiveU systems for remote feeds, TROY TrojanVision produces international conversations and expert interviews through a collaboration between professional staff and students, with shows hosted by university faculty and staff from across campus.

“We have an economics show and International Insights show where we are talking to guests around the world,” says Herring. “It’s amazing who we’ve talked to and what we’ve been able to do.”

These live interviews are seamlessly integrated into NewBlue Captivate’s PiP graphics — giving remote conversations the same professional look as in-studio guests. The students capture incoming video through LiveU, drop it straight into NewBlue Captivate, and frame it within graphics that match TROY TrojanVision’s brand and tone. The result: real-time international dialogue with broadcast-quality visuals and timing.

TROY TrojanVision has also demonstrated the ability to support multiple live productions on the same day. During a recent midday newscast, the team simultaneously streamed the dedication of the Rosa Parks and Helen Keller statues at the Montgomery Capitol. While NewBlue Fusion and Captivate SDI outputs were fully occupied by the Midday News, the workflow highlighted the system’s potential to support parallel productions when scheduled outside core newscasts.

From local stories to global discussions, NewBlue Captivate ensures every show feels unified, engaging, and ready for air.

Expanding the TROY TrojanVision Story

By covering both campus events and global interviews, TROY TrojanVision has created a powerful storytelling ecosystem — one that connects students, families, and viewers worldwide. With each production, students gain confidence not only as journalists but as live producers, directors, and storytellers.

Beyond news, TROY TrojanVision operates as a full production facility, producing live broadcasts for campus-wide events including the Miss Troy University Pageant, the Helen Keller Lecture Series, and performances by TROY Theatre and Dance.

“Every new event gives us new ideas for how to use Captivate,” says Herring. “It’s exciting to see what else we can do for our viewers.”
